Assignment Evaluation Criteria Calculation

Learn how assignment evaluation criteria scores are calculated based on ratings and weights.

Note: This feature is accessible only to users for whom it has been enabled.

When evaluating a learner's performance in an Assignment Pro, multiple criteria are rated. Each criterion includes:

  • Minimum Rating
  • Maximum Rating
  • Weight or Total Score
  • Learner's Rating

Rating Range Calculation

The Rating Range defines the number of rating levels between the minimum and maximum rating values, including both endpoints.

Formula

Rating Range = (Maximum Rating + 1) - Minimum Rating

Adding +1 ensures that all rating levels are included in the calculation.

For example, when the minimum rating is 1 and the maximum rating is 10, the rating range is 10, representing all ratings from 1 to 10.

Example

If a criterion has:

  • Minimum Rating = 1
  • Maximum Rating = 10

Then:

Rating Range = (10 + 1) - 1 = 10

Therefore, the rating range is 10.

Criteria-wise Score Calculation

The Criteria-wise Score calculates the score earned by the learner for an individual criterion based on their rating and the total score assigned to that criterion.

Formula

Criteria-wise Score = (Gained Rating / Rating Range) × Total Score

Where:

  • Gained Rating = Learner's rating for the criterion
  • Rating Range = (Maximum Rating + 1) - Minimum Rating
  • Total Score = Weight or maximum points assigned to the criterion

Example

Consider Criterion 1 with the following values:

  • Minimum Rating = 1
  • Maximum Rating = 10
  • Learner's Rating = 8
  • Total Score (Weight) = 5

Step 1: Calculate the Rating Range

Rating Range = (10 + 1) - 1 = 10

Step 2: Calculate the Criteria-wise Score

Criteria-wise Score = (8 / 10) × 5 = 4

Therefore, the learner earns a Criteria-wise Score of 4 out of 5.

Overall Score Calculation

The Overall Score represents the learner's total performance across all criteria, expressed as a percentage.

Formula

Overall Score = (Sum of Learner's Criteria-wise Scores / Sum of Total Scores) × 100

Where:

  • Learner's Criteria-wise Scores = Actual scores earned for each criterion
  • Total Scores = Maximum possible scores for all criteria combined

Example

Consider the following two criteria:

CriterionTotal ScoreLearner's RatingRating RangeCriteria-wise Score
15810(8 / 10) × 5 = 4
28810(8 / 10) × 8 = 6.4

Step 1: Calculate the Sum of Learner's Scores

4 + 6.4 = 10.4

Step 2: Calculate the Sum of Total Possible Scores

5 + 8 = 13

Step 3: Calculate the Overall Score

Overall Score = (10.4 / 13) × 100 = 80%

Therefore, the Overall Score is 80%.
