Catalog Summary Percentage Calculation

Learn how the Average Time Spent percentage is calculated in the Catalog Summary report.

The Catalog Summary percentage calculation helps understand learner engagement by comparing the time learners spend on a course with the total course duration.

Average Time Spent Calculation

When General is selected under Catalog Summary, the following values are used:

  • Duration – The total course duration provided by the course provider.
  • Average Time Spent – The average percentage of the course duration spent by learners.

Formula

Average Time Spent (%) = (Total Time Spent by Learners / Total Course Duration × Number of Learners) × 100

Example

Consider the following:

  • Learner 1 spent 2 hours on a course with a total duration of 5 hours.
  • Learner 2 spent 3 hours on the same course with a total duration of 5 hours.

Step 1: Calculate the average time spent

Average Time Spent = (2 + 3) / 2 = 2.5 hours

Step 2: Calculate the percentage

Average Time Spent (%) = (2.5 / 5) × 100 = 50%

Therefore, learners spend an average of 50% of the total course duration.
