Memory Booster

What is a Memory Booster?

Memory Boosters provide learners multiple opportunities to go through content that was covered a while ago or any length of time. It is a process of spaced repetition where information in various forms can be scheduled to be accessed by the learner making it easier to recall information and also improving retention abilities over a period of of time. Memory boosters can be a PDF, a URL or another course that is saved as a memory booster.

Just like how templates are accessed as explained in the sub-section Selecting Templates under Course Authoring and Publishing, memory boosters are created in the same manner. However, 2 important aspects to be kept in mind with respect to memory boosters are:

  1. To create a memory booster, enable the Memory Booster option in Course Settings under Course Content. Shown highlighted in Red.

  2. A memory booster cannot be published, but all other actions can be taken when creating a memory booster. Shown highlighted in Red.

Once a memory booster is saved, that course tile appears under the option All in the Courses Page.

The same course also appears under the Memory Booster option in the Courses Page.

Clicking the three dots under any course tile, gives the options as shown. The options General and Publish are not available for a memory booster.

As a part of publishing a course from the Course General Setting page, a memory booster or multiple memory boosters can be added. To know more about how to publish a course, refer to the Publish Course sub-section under Course Authoring and Publishing. Let's look at how a memory booster is added in a simple manner.

There are two ways to access the Course General Setting page. The first option is to click the Publish button from within the relevant course authoring interface once the relevant templates have been added. To know more about how to create a course, refer to the Content Creation sub-section under Course Authoring and Publishing. Shown highlighted n Red.

Another way to access the Course General Setting page, is to access the Courses page, click the three dots under any course tile and then click the General option. Shown highlighted n Red.

The Course General Setting page as it appears.

Click the MEMORY BOOSTERS tab.

To add a memory booster, click the Add Memory Booster button.

A row added appears as shown.

Multiple types of memory boosters can be added. As explained earlier, it could be a PDF, a URL or another course that is saved as a memory booster.

  1. The Select Criteria field has the options completion and end date. This means the memory booster can be triggered after course completion which could happened before the scheduled end date or the final due date by when the course has to be completed.
  2. The Select Interval field has the options a day, a week, 2 weeks, a month, 3 months and 6 months.
  3. The Select Action field has the options Document, Web Link and Memory Booster.
  4. The last field will show an option to upload a document if the option Document is chosen in the Select Action field. It will show an option to Add Link/URL if the option Web Link is chosen in the Select Action field. It will show the memory booster name that was created if the option Memory Booster is chosen in the Select Action field.

Click the check mark against the first memory booster.

The success message indicates that the memory booster has been added. Similarly, click the check mark against the other memory boosters.
